Matterhorn:The Magic Behind the Mountain

Now there's no doubting that the Matterhorn is a magical mountain that illuminates the nigh sky during the Disneyland fireworks spectacular, and stands tall and magnificent during the day, but do you know the story behind the mountain?

In the late 1950's, Walt Disney had been working on a new film called "Third Man on the Mountain." Filming in Zermatt, Switzerland, Walt Disney felt entranced by the 14,700 ft. mountain and urged his designers to turn a mound of dirt between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland into the mystical snowy mountaintop we know today as the "Matterhorn Bobsleds".

Today, the Matterhorn mountain stands at 147 feet tall (100th the scale of the actual mountain). Inspired by the classic "Third Man on the Mountain" Disney film, the Matterhorn is now one of Disney's most beloved attractions.

Film Fact: The name of the Matterhorn mountain in the 1959 film "Third Man on the Mountain" was called the "Citadel"

Well that's all for tonight folks!
God Bless and SWEET DREAMS!
